David Nilsson

My name is David Nilsson and 2017 marks 10 years for me as a creator of bead art.

Growing up I always loved video games and played everything I could get my hands on. When I later started working at a toy store I was inspired to do something creative. Knowing that drawing and painting weren't really my thing, I decided to try these fuse beads we had at work. 

I started out by making sprites from the Super Mario video games I loved as a kid and I was instantly hooked! I made all kinds of things from my favorite games and it soon evolved and I started to make portraits of my family, friends, and celebrities.

At this time in my life, I was a heavy drinker and had been for years. I never saw the drinking as a big problem, but in reality, my life had been in a downward spiral for a long time and had escalated to the point that I hit rock bottom in 2008 after a night out.

I woke up a morning in January feeling the worst I have ever felt in my life. After reaching out to my mother she told me "You know, you are still young. You can still change." At that moment I knew what I had to do. I had to quit drinking.

The support I got from everyone from family, friends, and co-workers was great! But the one thing that made this all possible for all these years was the beads. The beads keep both my mind and hands occupied being creative. I never attended AA, the beads kept my head on straight.

Since 2016 I exclusively work with Artkal beads. 

After using other brands of beads for a long time, I looked on the market and started using Artkal beads, and now Artkal beads has raised the bar so high that other brands just can’t meet my standards anymore. 
With so many colors and great quality, there really isn’t any reason to use anything but Artkal beads.
